but yeah. last weekend was pride weekend... more importantly my FIRST pride EVER. Pride Toronto is one of the most notable events of the city... not to mention one of the most notorious Pride weekends in the world. Let's just say it's known to get a little bit craaaay.
Pride usually has a whole week devoted to it (noted by the pride pub i attended, mentioned in a previous post) but the weekend is when all the real big fun starts. This year, there was a trans march, and a dyke march on friday and saturday, along with tons of other events around the city... all ending with the big parade on sunday.
Friday
I freshly bought an outfit for the night from h&m, drove to pick up bobby and we took the subway downtown. Our friends were planning to leave their residence at 10ish, and we were only getting onto the subway at 9. Being the party-goers we are, we decided to drink jack and coke on the subway. I was impressed with my steady hand, not spilling a drop of jack while freehand pouring it into the coke bottle. Just as the buzz was kicking in, a dude came on the subway with a dog. It was a cute, healthy dog, with a bright gold coat, and shiny brown eyes. The man sat on the opposite side of the train, but his personality and voice could be felt and heard throughout. He quickly became friendly with another passenger on the train and they seemed to be exchanging words, and the passenger played with the dog. I couldnt keep my eyes of the dog, and the owner took note of it... he waved at me and yelled out hello. I smiled and waved back. He asked if i wanted to meet "Suzie" i couldn't resist and said yes. The man came up to B and I and we learned that he and the dog are both homeless right now, originally from Quebec. I was shocked, because the dog looked so healthy and clean, i would have never thought she was homeless.... the man on the other hand... reeked of old clothes and urine, so i wasnt surprised. I handed him a dollar because hopefully he would keep Suzie healthy. He proceeded to show us all these trinkets he had accumulated from his backpack. One of which was a freaky dead baby puppet. Luckily our stop came, and we departed from Suzie and the man.
We got to the Rez, and continued drinking. Several people commented on my outfit, telling me i looked gorgeous/beautiful and fierce, which made me feel good.... but i hate compliments. This lead to a friend Ramon, pushing me towards the wall and telling me to POSE FOR THE CAMERA...a photoshoot. i tried to werk it.. but i failed LOL. this lead to a runway walk, which i contributed to.. but my walk failed to match the fierceness of my fellow models. the drinking commenced, and i threw up in the bathroom cuz i had to much. We later headed to the Phoenix, for an event called FUNK ASIA. a south asian themed night with performances. The music was all bollywood influenced, which isnt really my thing but i got up on stage and decided to just go with it. I danced with random black guys who were digging the way i moved... I got to see Vogue Evolution (ABDC fame) which was the highlight of the night. At the end of the night, bobby and i couldnt head home just yet because the subways were closed, so we stayed downtown until the subway reopened. we walked back to rez, and picked up mcdonalds on the way back. I fell asleep on the dorm room floor of Vic college for about 2.5 hours, got up, and headed home. I got home at 7:35... and passed out.
Saturday
I stayed home, laid low, went to a cousins BBQ
Sunday
woke up, took the bus to SQ1, took the GO bus downtown with Bobby.
we walked from Union station to Vic college and met up with people. We walked down to where the parade was... thinking we were late, we sped walked and rushed.... the parade started ~1.5 hours behind schedule :). Finally we walked! we marched behind a samba band, so really e dance-marched the whole way back. It was hot as tits marching, so any chance we could be sprayed by water guns/hoses we took the opportunity. at one point, some guy marching with us gave us ice cubes to cool down with! Everyone was so nice and friendly, the costumes/drag queens were on point and so fierce looking. There was so much love both in the parade and in the audience of those watching... it was a joy and pleasure to be apart of.
After the parade, OUT@UTM and friends all went to korean BBQ. seriously, the best food ever. i was so hungry i devoured half that shit in like record time. Afterwards we met up with hilary and got back to rez. Thinking i was to go home, Bobby and Hilary peer pressured me to stay and get cray. i did. we met up with ramon and the gayasians, and got CRAAAAAAAAY with a drinking game called Russian Roulette. No details, but there was a lot of partial nudity, seductive dancing, kissing, and drinking involved.
We then headed back to Phoenix nightclub, and danced the night away. I cha chad with a random stranger, and was manhandled by a friend of a friend LOL. it was a good night. Subway'd home with hilary and bobby, only to be stranded at islington. Luckily Hil has an amazing BF who picked us up and drove us home :)
Overall a good weekend. Several deets missing, but just enough to give you the feel that i loved my first pride experience and def cannot wait to go again!
me at h&m lol
