UofT Pride Pub! (picture heavy!)

UofT had a BBQ/Pub and Dance to kick of Toronto's Pride week!

Mah gurlz and I went downtown to the St George Campus and paid 10 dollars for food that Hilary would have classified as "rabbit food"...but I personally didnt mind it (i like eating like a rabbit). The venue for the BBQ/Pub was the quad, and the old buildings gave the event such an elegant feel. The weather was so nice and sunny, but being in a courtyard did give it a bit of a wind tunnel event. Bobby, Hil, Eitan and myself sort of wanted to get a bit wasted, but the drinks were a bit overpriced... so we came up with an idea to walk to and LCBO get some drankz, then go to a mcdonalds and buy a 1dollar whatever size drink, get a little waaaay-stead and then come back to the BBQ. Upon thinking about where the closest LCBO was... the lazyasses in us kicked in, and we decided to just save the walking time and just drink at the event. The BBQ was really just the opening act, to the main event of the dance later in the night. Bobby wanted to get his cray on really early, so he left us to go drink at someones rez.

We got sangrias, right around the time more people decided to show up. Mingling went on, and it was starting to lighten up. Unfortunately it started to get really cold, so we all sort of relocated to underneath the tent where the bar and DJ was. Sure enough we were all aching to dance. Me and Hil took the liberty of doing your usual "awkward suggestive white girl dancing" to start it off. Luckily someone requested Madonna's Like A Prayer, to which all of the UTM attendees started singing along to the music and getting the party started. Everyone started joining in on the festivities, and now it was a party. A great setting for LGBTQ and allies to get together and have fun. Here are some photos from the event.

peter and paul

Sunday, my friends Peter and Paul (twins!) had a birthday dinner to celebrate their twenty-first birthdays at a restaurant called moxies.

Dinner conversation bounced from MCAT stuff, longboarding, hilary duff, hate/pity fucking.

if i had you

chanson du jour:

i dont know i had the sudden urge to listen to this song... i heard it on the radio on the way to school today, and have been looping it since.

G20 FUCKERY

Up until recently, "G20" meant nothing to me. I have never heard of it, so obviously i had no idea what the hell it was all about. It came into light, when on the radio i would start hearing about all this G20 this, G20 that. Basically, whatever the G20 was... it was coming to Toronto, and and how all garbage cans were gonna be removed from the city, and how certain parts of the city were gonna be fenced up.

after talking to numerous individuals about what the hell was a "G20" what i got was this.
the G20 is a group of the worlds 20 most elite world leaders or heads of state. The G20 conference, is basically a meeting between the said 20 heads of state, where they discuss world economics and politics... and basically coordinate with one another how they are going to streamline running the world in tandem with each other.

Any time a small group of individuals has to come up with a policy or laws that will affect the larger general public, there will always be some form of resistance by the public. The main reason for the resistance, is derived from the concern that other issues affecting the general public will go unaddressed and left neglected.

This is where protests come about. Well the G20 coordinators and heads of security know this is bound to happen, and were expecting it. Thus the fencing of Toronto, and closures of business buildings, banks and other commercial buildings... as to keep the population of toronto controlled.. leaving Toronto a Ghost town. The removal of the garbage cans and receptacles, in the fear of vandalism. Riot police forces on hand, in case of any misconduct or unruly protestors. Peaceful protests were to be held... and were.

That was until a small group called the Black Bloc, a relatively SMALL group of extremist "protestors" compared the the thousands of legitimate protestors and activists... who basically fucked Toronto up, and caused chaos in the streets.

Police cars were set on fire, windows to stores smashed, chaos in the streets.

Believe me, i am all about a good protest, but this is NO way, in any shape or form a respectable NOR effective way of getting a point across. The "extreme rioting" you see, and that has caused the uproar, are just a small group of individuals who use the G20 as an opportunity to cause havoc, and chaos, and label it as "protesting"... when really, it's your basic scenario of just "wanting to do hoodrat stuff with your friends" and now having the chance to get ~away with it~

The majority of the madness is not G20 related in my mind, but rather a flaw of human nature to want to contribute to disorder. I wouldnt second guess that the majority of the people downtown yesterday werent there to fight the power, but rather just exist in what they knew would be a historic event. They knew shit was gonna pop off, and if it was, they were gonna be there with their iphones and twitpic the shit out of it. Like a law of entropy in chemistry, the world has a tendency to move towards disorder and increase chaos.

The sad thing is, through the madness and chaos, the point of protesting was lost.

The g20 conference has since ended, but the protesting is said to continue. Stores/buildings and banks were supposed to reopen Monday, but have since been advised to reopen tuesday, or later depending on what events may transpire. My dad told me, the worst is yet to come... and I don't doubt it.
